: I have a 79 633 csi equipped with a thermal reactor. It produces a scary amount of heat under the hood. What would be the replacement options? What other mods. would be required. Is this even a good idea?

Yes, this would be a very good idea. Remove it and preserve it before it cracks and falls apart. Replace it with a standard exhaust manifold and your engine compartment will be much happier. Here in Cal your reactors are worth a lot of money as they are getting scarce. I understand that some smog referees are alowing exemptions because of limited availibility.
