: After 140K, my beloved '87 635csi is starting to consume oil.
: I have fixed the common external leaks, oil pressure sensor etc.,but I think it's time to remove the head for service.
: Question is....How difficult is the head to remove and replace with the engine in the car. I know a lot of you guys have done this procedure, so where do I start. The front of the engine where the cam drive is looks awful crowded. Should I pull the radiator??????
: Thanks for all the past help,

Do a wet and dry compression test first; this
will tell if the engine is using oil top or bottom. Chances are at 140K, you will need to
do the head at the least and rings on the bottom.
I urge you to be sure of your own wrenching
ability before you do anything. If that checks
okay pull the rad if you do the head, you have
more room and you won't bugger up the rad fins.
If you have to do the bottom end, pull the engine out and do it all properly. Budget allowing of course. Good luck, Gary.
