: Couldn't be for 2 reasons: just recently replaced the hangers and the noise goes away when the clutch is engaged, but returns right when I let off the clutch. I'm sure its SOMETHING in the clutch...

: : Could be loose exhaust mounts... mine rattled taking off in first, especially slooowly. Tighten it up a bit w/ some new rubber rings.

When was the last time the clutch was replaced? M cars are usually driven hard by thier owners. Throw-out bearing, plate, loose or worn syncro, could be any of those. When it starts to slip or the pedal has to be let out all the way before the gear engages, time to replace the clutch.
