Here's what I might do if it were me...
1) (!) Verify that the head and gasket are intact. Look for the white sweet smoke, milky oil, and the like.
2) Any puddles under the car? What are they? Coolant - hose blew. ATF - depends - either trans or pwr steering or both. Oil - gulp - gulp...
3) Plugs - how long since replacement. A recent story in Roundel described a distempered M3 running rough as sandpaper; after trying all the really hard stuff and much nut-busting, what the hell, I guess I'll change the plugs. Voila - smooth as silk again.
4) Belts - might explain the pwr steer, alt, water pump problems. Probably got slick somehow, like a hose that blew and leaked out or something like that.
5) Distribution of ignition power - I detailed my engine in my 633, started the car to put it in my driveway, and my 6 cylinder M30 ran like it was on 4 cylinders. Got it warmed up and burned off whatever water may have grounded whatever it was, ran good again. This may not apply to your car, though, unless water enters the story somewhere.

A couple of my first ideas,
James
