I have the same problem on my '86 635csi, though the speedometer is the only one that works, all the other gauges sleep most of the time & then suddenly start jumping all over the place. This must be caused by "Conductor plate" circuit board positioned right behind the instrument cluster that BMW dealers sell for $382!!!
