My 635 CSi Euro (archive)

My 635 has been making a sort of grinding sound when i put it into gear. I know there is a common problem with the E24 but I don't think it should sound like that. If you put the right amount of pressure on the gas, the noise stops but if you let off or give it more the noise returns. It almost sounds like the drive shaft is rubbing or scraping something. I would be grateful for any suggestions or comments.
