Run new ground wire from alt to eng block; old one seem toasted. Elect shop( alt/ starter rebuild) checked and they're OK! Don't know amperage. I trust this shop cause I've been dealing with them for 10yrs.

QUESTION: I read Bently that burned alt light on dash can stop the alt from charging on some models- mine is not lit, bulb is fine. Car is 80 633 w/ 86 Motronic eng. Could this be the culprit???? TIA as always.

YES. Turn the bulb holder to lign up connections. The bulb has to light up when ig first turned on . It must also go out when started. This circuit energizes the field.
