Thanks for your kind words, Dana.

I hesitated to even mention the Monroes figuring that a good flaming would result, but seeing that BMWs are now made in the USA, why would anyone have a problem with US made shocks.

Most Bosch parts now are made in a different country of origin than Germany as well.

I first encountered a set of Monroes on my own 633CSi. When I bought the car I was impressed with the control. The ride was between Boges and Bilsteins (not HD). I was almost as horrified when I checked them and found the blue Monroe cylinders thrust up into the pure German flanks of my love, and they weren't even gas struts!!

I was close to screwing the Mustang onto my purple 6er right then, but decided to keep an open mind a bit longer.

When a customer wanted the newest Monroe Sensa-Track gas struts on his //M5 I thought it would be a great experiment. To my surprise (but not his) they were great, and he loved them.

I just put on my 3rd set of Sensa-Tracks, these on my own 535is (the second "is" I put them on). So far I only have about 100 miles on them, but I think they are quite good. They are definately a bit stiffer than Boge, but less harsh than the Bilsteins that were on the car. They appear to control the car well and the damping seems right for the spring rates, but they are definately more sporting than, say, stock 528e struts (Boge), but my wife noticed the more civilized ride.

I cannot say how long they will last (they have a two year, unlimited mile warranty), but they do claim to be World Class in every way. Monroe is an old experienced company, and now is under TRW, a major manufacturer of automotive components, so decent quality is not out of the question.

I have to say if price were no object, I'd go with Koni due to their adjustability and lifetime warranty, but for many folks price IS an issue.

I'll let everone know either way on these as they age, and should they pack it in shortly, I promise I will affix a Mustang secured from the local Pick-A-Part wrecking yard prominently to my e28 grille as well as remove the "is" from my trunk and replace it with a "GT" from an Escort GT secured from the same source.

In addition, at the Confessional, I recently beseeched: "Forgive me Father, for I have sinned by also installing Autolite spark plugs in my B9 Alpina and by cursing the Bosch platinums the P.O. had installed."
