The only explanation I've been able to come up with is that a properly maintained car shouldn't need a voltmeter or oil pressure gauge. If the car is in good shape, the only way your oil pressure will end up too low is a catastrophic failure, for which a gauge would give about 2.5s advance warning.

I still think they should have been included, but I certainly don't miss them. I've almost never seen an incident where a voltmeter was useful(Yes, I know such things happen and I don't give a damn what happened to your brother. They're useless 99.8% of the time.), but oil would've been nice to some extent. As I said, no biggie.
