Have a 86 635csi, the aux fan works if hot wired, replaced both high & low temp switch today and still does not work (both fuses checked out o.k.)even though the temp gague shows the needle in the middle. Wondering if anybody out there has any suggestions to the problem. Thanks .
Just my opinion (no offense intended).... I think tis manual switch idea is not so good. We are all certainly good enough to run a little wire and a switch and it is certainly a decent, workable soloution but I decided not to....here's why and it may make you think. Peter recently advised me to check all ground connections for a very dim battery light. It WAS a ground connection AND my fan. See, my battery light really threw me for a loop, coming on under the strangest conditions and so very dimly. Forward of the fuse box (before the battery) are several ground wires that come together through a single bolt. One of these is a ground for the fan or fan switch (I didn't trace it but it completes the fan circuit). Anyway, my fan now blows incredibly and my battery light is off.
My point is I was seeking help with a battery light problem. My fan wasn't up to spec but barely adequate and I figured I'd let it go antoher season. We're all talking about temp switches and ballasts and they are the common problems but my problem was 15 cents and probably many other problems to come. Run the switch if you need a quick fix BUT I'd advise finding your exact problem.
