The info I gave you earlier is right...gray connector is for reference sensor. To test the sensor....disconnect connector. Holding the connector facing you, make sure that the side with 2 tabs face downward while the side with 1 tab faces up. Pins are numbered 1, 2, 3 from left to right. Use an Ohmmeter and check resistance between terminal 1 (yellow) and terminal 2 (black). Should read 960 +/- 96 ohms. Resistance between terminal 3 (shield) and either terminal 1 or 2 should read 100,000 ohms minimum. Hope this helps.

dont remember which one i fixed - will check when it gets back from the shop- but it only misses that cylinder when the wire is connected- get back to on which wire - dan

There are 2 plastic connectors...one for the reference sensor and the other for the speed sensor. If I remember correctly, the gray connector is for the reference sensor while the black one is for the speed sensor. Do you remember which one you fixed?? I've heard (but never tried it) that the car can literally run just fine without the speed sensor, but I know that it will not run without the reference sensor. I don't believe you did any damage to the Motronic unit. Neither do I belive that it has anything to do with your rough idle when connected. Again this sensor provides TDC info to the Motronic. You may want to test both sensors and make sure they are within spec. I'll see if I can dig up the spec info for you.
