I'm trying to install a new Blaupunkt CD player in my '84 633csi. There is a limited number of speaker outputs coming off the back and the only way I've found to get any sound is to hook up the left and right channels together. What is the trick? Can I get rid of the factory fader knob functions? With things hooked up this way, the stereo overheats quickly and shuts itself down after a couple of minutes. I've hooked up quite a few stereos in the past but have never seen anything like this!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My opinion is that if you want to have an up to date install you need to bypass that fader. It's easy enough to follow the speaker wire color combinations for front/rear/, left/right. If you've got the time re-wire the whole thing. Also, don't toss the fader. You'll want to have it there for appearence. I used it for a custom knob for another function.
