Can you buy a pair of receptacles for the M5 bar or do you have to go cut a perfectly good M5 apart to get the sway-bar mounts?

Please help!!! Need to bring the collective wisdom of the modifiers and upgraders on this forum. Have you ever encountered this problem?
I am upgrading the sway bar on my 86 635 with larger sway bars from the E28 M5. However, the attachment hardware for the larger M5 sway bar is too big for the 635 receptacle area. What can I do? Do I weld a larger M5 receptacle onto the 635 chassis. I have already tried using the 635 attachment hardware but it is too small for the M5 sway bar.
Thanks for you help.
Clive.

Yes, you must weld the m5 bracket after you remove the old 635 one.
