Clive,

You have 2 choices:

- cut off the current sway bar mount pads, get the M5/M6 parts and weld them on. I have the part numbers, if you decide to go this route.

- get urethane bushings with the right size opening (25mm). They're available from several places, such as Ireland Engineering and La Jolla Independent BMW. I also have a brand new set.

Pros and Cons:

Method one just about bullet-proof, but I prefer not to have those huge rubber bushings, as they allow compliance I don't want.

Method two is quick and easy, but you need to be careful about running the bar tight with soft springs, as the mounts will tear. However, the weak point is self-evident, and it would be any more effort to re-inforce those than to go to the M5/M6 mounts.

Good luck,
-jerry

Please help!!! Need to bring the collective wisdom of the modifiers and upgraders on this forum. Have you ever encountered this problem?
I am upgrading the sway bar on my 86 635 with larger sway bars from the E28 M5. However, the attachment hardware for the larger M5 sway bar is too big for the 635 receptacle area. What can I do? Do I weld a larger M5 receptacle onto the 635 chassis. I have already tried using the 635 attachment hardware but it is too small for the M5 sway bar.
Thanks for you help.
Clive.
