My sister will probably get a 88' 635CSi with an automatic transmission, and I want to see if anyone had any problems with a BMW automatic transmissions.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but be advised that these auto transmissions are notoriously weak. I replaced mine at a little over 110k miles. I cannot vouch for the level of service or abuse the it received at the hands of the previous owners, although the rest of the car is in good shape. I know other owners who have had similar experiences. I'm not trying to talk you out of buying, but be warned - this is something to watch out for, and replacement is not cheap.
