I have an '89 with the same problems. I am faced with doing the same job. The Expansion valves (2) and reciever drier are basically wear parts. That is they are supposed to be replaced at some interval. Good news is the parts can be had for about $85 total. It's the evacuation and recharge that is hard to get / or find someone willing.
