I would like to lean out my fuel mixture. PO replaced AFM from a 1987 735, checked BMW part numbers and same piece for both cars. I have a small cylinder under the afm, but I don't think this is the screw everyone speaks of. I have a black cover that says "BOSCH" on it and it seems to be glued on. Is the udjustment screw under this cover? Also, about how many turns recommended and to which way?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

First, why do you think you have to lean it out?

Second, there is an allen headed recessed mixture screw accessible on the dame side as the black cover. It may still have a seal over the hole.

The bad news is that it won't do much at all.

To adjust the entire rpm range, not just idle, you must remove the cover (carefully) and adjust the spring preload on the AFM flap. This is done by moving the hairspring lock out of the way and rotating the toothed wheel in the desired direction.

Less tension richens the mixture, while increasing the tension leans it.

Mark the original position before moving it.
