I tried putting on some POR-Patch, which is an anti-rust goo, sort of a gelly like consistency, goes on easily, and forms a very tight, anti-rust seal... I don't think they specify this product for this particular usage, but it seems okay so far (6 months). www.por15.com It was like $10 for a tube.
