1985 635 CSI Euro - need help with transmission (archive)

Hi. I have a 1985 635 CSI European model with an automatic transmission. While driving the other day, i noticed that from a stop, the car wasn't accelerating, but i could hear the engine reving. then, it seemed like the transmission had just kicked into drive, and the car began to accelerate.

Later that day, i was driving, and i reached about 20 mph, and all acceleration ceased. In fact, when i stopped the car, i found out that when i tried to put the car in a forward gear, the engine just increased its rpms. The weird thing is that i can still go in reverse. Could this be a computer problem? maybe one of the linkages? How would i fix this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
