I do not know about automatic transmissions, but I have a strong feeling that the Cluch pack is the source for these problems, I was about to get a '88 635CSi, (auto tran.) but it was sold and befor it was sold I posted a massage,(this fourm) and I asked if anyone had any problem with automatic trans. and one person said they had to replace the cluch pack, but I don't know who that was, so post a massage looking for him.
