Bad apple? continued re: rusty gas tank seam, leak (archive)

I don't live at beach. Assume tank was installed undamaged. Does anyone think that 7 years is a long time for a gas tank to last? It is an new OE part according to my invoice dated 6/16/93. More feedback would be appreciated.
