Yes, I suppose that, with careful research, one could find a car 2500 miles away and a mechanic to look at it. Perhaps I could even pay one of the professional inspectors advertised in "Dupont Registry" or "Robb Report." At $150 to $300 dollars PER inspection, I'd rather fly there to see the car. Not to mention, how am I going to justify paying a "pro" money to look at a vehicle I may not buy? What if the car is not worth it? One must still pay the person who inspected it. When shopping for a 6 car, I looked at ten or so.
Seven of them were so neglected, I did not even bother geting into them to start them up. Had they been across the country, I would have been out $700 dollars (if all I'd asked was a simple checkup). Had a leakdown, etc. been performed on them, I'd be out a few grand. As a BMW fanatic, I trust NOBODY to tell me if my cars are up-to-snuff, especially sight unseen. I had a mechanic buddy swear up and down that he found a beautiful Euro 635csi for me. I passed upon seeing it, as "beautiful" to me denotes a car with 100% records, an owner that was over 30 when the car was purchased, and usually an ORIGINAL owner. I have bought a car from a second owner once, but the records were perfect, as was its physical condition.
As for my mastery of the English language, we'll leave that judgement to my editors; I still call bullshit on Ebay!
