My '89 635csi has the same problem. I recently re-charged freon due to a compressor repair butthe problem hasn't solved. The mechanic guy told me that it might be because of that the front AC has longer duct after the evaporator than the rear AC. However I don't believe his words because I know other cars(635) which has cooler front AC. I suspect the expansion valve at the front AC has a problem. I heard that the hole at the expansion valve could be stuffed easily. I had already bought a new parts but didn't replace that this time because that mechanic guy was reluctant to do the work due to the difficult accessability to that part. Also it can be a fault of the front evaporator or evaporator temperature sensor.

Well, I had this exact same problem, & it turned out to be as simple as the A/C system needing to be recharged with freon. Don't know why low freon affects the front A/C but not the rear.

My front ac does not get cold. The rear unit works fine.
I recall seeing a post with the same symptoms. I check the archives but could not find it. Can some one please point me in the right direction to correct this problem.
Thank you.
