Air in the fuel line will purge out after a very short time. It may be possible that crud got into the injector rail and has clogged an injector or two. After starting how fast has engine turned (RPM)? Have you got the engine running fast enough to "blow it out?"
You changed dist. cap right?
Double/triple check spark plug firing order. It is very easy to get two wires in the wrong holes. Any long term mechanic has made this mistake. As previously suggested check the condition of the wires. Sometimes wires are damaged while removing them from cap. Remove all the spark plugs. Leave them all out(it'll crank easier) Insert the spark plugs in each socket wire end. Crank. Does each one of the spark plugs fire? All equally strong?
This will determine if the spark plug delivery system is in working order.
Again, where is smoke coming from? If it's an external leak burning on the exhaust header that'll burn off, providing there's no major continuing leak. If there is white smoke blowing out of the exhaust pipe then you've got either a blown head gasket or an excessive amount of fuel not being fully burned (stuck open injector?). Either one of those will make the car run rough as hell.
Did you overheat the car recently?
