Tim,
The ABS could be a number of things, the least expensive being a burnt relay, which happens when the car is jump started incorrectly, could also be worn sensors at the wheel. The broken tach is most likely the SI board. Does the onboard computer work? If you are lucky, replacing the batteries on the board, located behind the inst. cluster will get it going again. Unfortunately this trick did'nt work on one of my E30's, new SI boards are approx. $350 How many miles does it have? The timing chain should be replaced at 100,000. Drive shafts are notorious for going at around 100,000 as well, figure $400 for a rebuilt unit. Get some more info on the car, and start negotiating! I just picked up a decent Euro M6 with 100,000 miles for $7500! it needs about $2500 to get into near perfect shape.

Happy Motoren!

Alright, I just got back from looking at a red 87 M6. It is in very nice condition, not perfect but still very stunning at first sight. There is some cracking in the drivers side leather, the front spoiler is a little mesed up and there are some tiny chips on the frontmost part of the hood. Mechanically the car seems strong but it has a couple issues. #1 the ABS light dosn't go off so somewere there is a fault in the system. #2 The tachometer dosn't work. #3 the right rear window dosn't go down and the antenna dosn't go all the way down. Probably something minor...
Anyhow, with that said how much do you think the car is worth? The guy is asking 11,500. M6s don't come around here often so I dont have much to compare it to. Think thats too high, low, just right? Im not too concerned about the anti-lock brakes but does anyone have an estimate as to what is wrong with the tach and how much it might cost to fix?

Thanks.
