Do not use distilled water for coolant change...it is corrosive to aluminum parts. The reason for this is that water in its natural state has picked up all the calcium and magnesium etc that it can readily hold in suspension therefor it is in a state of equilibrium.Since distilled water is pure, eg: minus all minerals and disolved solids there is a scavengimg effect on aluminum as water tries to achieve a natural balance. If anything use softened water. If that is so why does the National Automotive Radiator Service Association recommend distilled water.
If the only thing in the cooling system was water you may be correct, however antifreeze is a mix of silicates and organic acids formulated to balance the tendencies of metal corrosion.
The unknown mix of minerals, organic matter and dissolved solids is more of a liability than an asset for sure.
I have been using distilled water for 25 years and I have had nothing but the best cooling system performance.
