There are a few problems with parting out cars as side hobbies or whatever... I can see both sides of the coin.

From the buyer's perspective, he wants to get a good deal on a used part. If he had cash to blow, he'd probably be buying the part new if it was available, not rolling the dice on buying a used part. With that in mind, he has to get an idea of how much someone wants for these parts. I've been hunting parts down for old '50s Alfa Romeos in the past and that's a whole other ballgame...if someone has the part, you just see if the part is good, and that's the emphasis. With 6 series, most of the parts ARE available and we are not stuck with parts cars being the main source of original replacements. With this in mind, some people reply with prices that are not all that competitive, pricewise... Email is easy to send off...I can keep a copy of all the stuff I'm looking for and zap it off to whoever posts a message in a matter of seconds...but then the person who is selling the parts complain that they have too much email to respond to, that buyers aren't serious, etc. Nobody is necessarily "serious" when they send a list of parts until they know how much you want...

From the seller's perspective, many folks are doing this as a side hobby, and honestly, it does take quite a while to respond to all the posts. Beyond that, you have to have an idea what all this stuff is worth before you start turning a rolling vehicle (if that) into a stranded nightmare. Once a deal is agreed upon, then seller has to go the trouble of taking a part off, cutting it out, getting it ready to ship out, taking it to be shipped...it can be a real hassle...

What's the point in all this rambling? Just keep in mind where everyone's coming from while also not forgetting: if you don't have the time and aren't prepared to put some time into it - don't go advertising things for sale and waste everyone's time. If you are the one asking for a price quote from someone, give them a chance to get some information to you, but know what you want, know what you want to pay, and do your homework on the item ahead of time to help move things along smoothly...nothing worse than some deal going on and on because you're asking one question a day, and it keeps stringing along...remember, the seller isn't a BMW research center!
