Depending on the budget there are few things possible.
1. Stroker motor- increase piston travel, Dinan Engineering builds great 3.5's, I think Hartge or some other German tuner now makes a glue-on bolt-on in place of changing the rods...I saw it in the Roundel back in June or so.
2. bolt on's- exhaust, headers etc.
3. cams- I think Korman has some cool stuff available.

My memory is foggy on the E24's I haven't owned one in a few years now. My best recommendation is to call up Dinan Engineering 650 962 9401. Be sure to do something nice for them (referal etc.) if they give out free advice with no sale attached!
