James, There are a few conditions that can lead to the symptoms you are experiencing, most of which require some disassembly of the door panel. The click you hear, along with the "firm fist trick" success indicates insufficient torque in the motor to move the window. This may be because the window is too high of a load for the motor due to mechanical binding so check for dry gears, tracks, and lubricate as needed. Also inspect the alignment of the window and its mechanisms . There also may be loss of power to the motor because of high resistance in the switch contacts or switch and motor connections. Check all plugs and terminals for corrosion. Also, the motors are permanent magnet DC motors that may loose their torque as the magnets age. If this is the case, the motor will have to be replaced. If you have an ohmmeter or a friend with one, it can help locate the exact cause. There is a chance that the female in your life will always think of you as an idiot when it comes to your mechanical abilities. I still have found no remedy for that.
