After reading the 6 series enth.companion,I was wondering if the US version of the M6(s38),have the same things that an owner of a grey mkt car should be wary of(oil starvation problems, the need to upgrade rotors from a 7 series, replacing the springs in the heads, defective camshaft profile by design, etc, etc) Any and all advice would be helpful before I invest.I love the looks and have read nothing but good things about the performance, but I dont want to buy something thats going to become a headache. Thanks

The US M6 version is federalized and therefore the DOT windshield, driving light, DME/O2 sensor and exhaust changes to pass DOT requirements have been designed in at the factory.

The US M6 (model years 87 & 88) has the engine upgrades installed as recalls on the Euro M635(double row cam chain and inner valve spring).

I have no knowledege of an oil starvation problem with the US S38B35 engine.

The perceived front brake rotor problem on the M6 is actually due to the small 284x10mm rotor & caliper w/35mm piston as rear brakes. Installing the rear brakes (300x20mm rotor & caliper w/40mm piston) from a E-34 540/M5 will correct the front brake rotor overload problem by re-biasing the brake performance. This upgrade is somthing that should be done to both US & Euro E-24, M6 & E-28, M5 irrespective of the front rotor and caliper combination.
