That is such crap. Your dealer is full of baloney!

In case you don't know it, dealers/salesman are the worst source of accurate, reliable, truthful information.
Most of them have very little mechanical expertise or abilities.
They will say anything that will ZING your emotions.

All engines are built by machinists/mechanics to within the same tolerances.

I'm not extremely interested in defending car sales industry folks, and I can understand the old school stereotype about deceitfulness.

Truth be known, the early 6's (with Euro emissions setups) were indeed "hand made". There are various interpretations of the already mentioned words in quotations; however, the early complete 6'er cars - probably until about '82 or so - were assembled by men with tools-in-hand, very similarly to the M1 program.

As a trivia sidenote, only the early 3.5 Euro motors were true 3.5 litre motors (when rounded up from 3.45_, like their M block cousins), others, mostly US spec are 3.433's.

As often occurs, the salesperson specified perhaps heard a mention of the old methods of manufacturing the flag ship and race program autos and the info was distorted like a call on a cellular phone in the middle of Belmont, CA.

btw, BMW manufacturing and outbound shipping has changed much in the past 24 years.
