Dual springs prevent oscillations that occur only at extremely high RPM's ( well in excess of factory redline). This helps prevent the tendencey to have valve float. The second reason for dual springs is a safety catch in case the main spring breaks.


Zack and Adam are right on...
the springs can also be made of different metals to resist failure through breaking apart.
