First I will adress the 84 633. Switching to an M motor, tran, and drivetrain will cost nearly as much as buying a mint 635csi or so-so M6. (got my 86 M635 for $7500, needs about $3500 to be in near top shape) A better option would be to rebuild with perf. upgrades, or better yet swap to an M30 3.5 with upgrades. As for the 79, it sits on a completely different chassis than the 84. I dont think the struts/shocks can be swapped. The suspension and steering on the 79-81 6'ers was designed in the 60's and the 82-89's are far superior. Also, perf. upgrades are hard to come by for those early models. The 79 would make a fun enthusiest project, but in my opinion the 84 will prove to be a much more rewarding daily driver with a rebuilt engine and some performance goodies. Hope this helps, good luck, and let me know how it all turns out!BobK2
you seem to be full of information so I was hoping to ask you a few questions. I recently inherited my fathers 84 633csi...it is a bit tired but in relatively good shape...it is an east coast car so it has a bit of rust. Aside from 17" rims it is completely stock with 130k. I have been the owner for a year or so but have been driving it for 6. All regular maint has been done and most everything has been replaced. Finally to my question...the engine is going to need a rebuild soon...am I better off selling the 633 and embarking on a search for an M? or replacing the engine w that of an M...I have access to a euro 635 (79)...will the bumpers and suspension (springs/struts) fit my car? The interior of the euro has been updated to a 85 M...so it has all the fixins...m seats, dash, wheel etc. And all for only 2.5k. Hope some of this makes sense and you are able to respond...neil
