Depends on how much work you're willing to do.
With stock suspension components, I've had 245/40-17 all around. With coil-overs and front fender lips rolled, I went to 255/40-17, and have just gone to 275/40-17 all around. Carefull attention to wheel offsets and spring perch heights is necessary to fit the latter.

Personally, I'd stick to 235/45-17s for everyday use with stock-type suspension.

What are the widest tires you can put on a 635 with a 17" wheel? I was told no bigger then 235 in the front or it will rub, is that true? What is the widest you can put on the back? Thanks for any help!
