I have an '86 US version, 120kmiles, <4000 miles on fuel
filter, new bmw fuel and vacuum hoses on the engine.
It starts well. The idle is not super rough but not
smooth either. The acceleration is mostly smooth with
some minor flat spots. Has been getting 16MPG for years.

I want to see how good I can tune it before buying a JimC
chip. Folks on this list have reported 20+MPG.

The fuel line on the cold start valve is rotty, haven't
figured out yet how to get my tools in there.

The fuel pressure is mostly at 36psi.
Under hard acceleration it peaks briefly at 44psi.
When I clamp the return line it goes to 75psi, whoa.
The Bentley spec is 40.6 ->46.4psi on a running engine.

Is 4psi (10%) significant? Will I see any improvement
in smoothness or MPG with a new FPR?

Next question: I've adjusted the valves twice and still
hear valve train noise from around #2, #3 (counting from
front of engine). The cam and oil bar are fine ( i think).
Anything obvious that I'm overlooking?
