To remove the switch, pop it out of the console delicately.
There is a clip/harness of wires attached that you'll need to detach and secure close to the outside of the console (otherwise they may fall back in and be difficult to retrieve).
The amount of slack on the wires clip is not much, careful to not pull hard.
Slap the new switch on and test it. If it's operational, secure the wires clip on firmly and pop the switch back into place.
Used switches can be found at most any BMW recycler for a decent price. A little plastic cleaner/protectant and it should look fine.
