Help!Headlights turn off when ignition on! (archive)

Help!

When I turn on my ignition, my headlights go out. If I recall correctly, the headlights should stay off until the ignition is turned ON - not the other way around...

Does anyone have any troubleshooting suggestions?

Once the ignition is on, you can pull the high beam switch towards you to turn on the headlights, but if you push the switch forward to lock in high beam mode, everything goes out. If the ignition is not on, everything works perfectly.
