My 84 633 did the same thing. At one time the batteries had leaked, causing circuit board damage. Cracks, bubbles, por solder connections, or other circuit board damage can contribute to this situation. Schematics for the board were unavailable to me, so I was unable to repair the corroded traces myself. I sent it to Programa in Fla. The do alot of BMW boards. Give them a call.
