The head from the '88+ E32, E34, and late E24 3.5 big six has larger valves (by 2mm) and ports. The engine has higher compression, 9.0:1 instead of 8.0:1. Unfortunately, rumor has it that a larger chamber on the later head causes you to lose compression, but people have reported noticeable power gains by swapping this head onto the 8.0:1 motor.


Does anyone know the chamber sizes of various big six heads?

I have an 85 635csi. I am looking to place a performance cam in the car. To get more power, I also look to change the cylinder head. Are there any heads from other cars that will bolt right in without other mods and give it more power?

e34 head from an 89+ 535i?
e24 head from an 88-89 635csi
Power rated for these is 208hp?

Howabout heads from M535i?

Has anyone done this?
