Help please. M88/3 engine aux. air valve doesn't (archive)

appear to be doing anything when I pinch closed the outlet air hose. Test temps. were 45F and 180F. Does this valve only function near freezing? Also on this '85 euro635 I have looked for the Lambda box supposedly installed. I only see a silver one (not the DME) stuffed up under the dash. I thought they were supposed to be black or green or something.
