I really enjoy the finer aspects of BMW's (have a 325i and a 635) and hate to go cheap for the sake of a few bucks, but.............

My '92 has black leather. The drivers seat was showing a lot of the cracking/white wear, particularly along the side supports on the base. I took it to the recognized interior gurus locally, where they inspected it, said the leather itself was still very good (I treat it often), and said they'd redye it (for an astronomical charge). I talked to them about how they do it, and convinced myself that they did nothing special. I then went out and bought a can of Kiwi Leather Dye. (NOT Kiwi shoe polish!!)

I figured I had nothing to loose, and tried it. Very, very happy with results! Redid the heavy wear areas 8 months later.

Recently bought my 635, also with black leather. These seats were much more worn, and I figured again, not much to lose. Used the Kiwi dye, and am very, very pleased!

Shoot me for not being a purist, but if I got results like this for less than $10 for both cars, figured I can put the extra into getting my seat heater fixed and rebuilding the 635 front suspension.

Any one else tried this? Not a clue on other than black.

I read recently an article about the process someone went through to re-dye the leather in his BMW. It was very detailed with addrewss of someone who mixes the dye. He used Laquer thinner to clean and stript he paint. Can someone tell me where I saw this or send me a copy of the process.
Thanks
