The bad news is that the motor/gearbox unit is sealed. Mine was completely U/S so I took a chisel to it. I would be astounded if you could dismantle it without inflicting quite a bit of damage on the case. Mine was a stuck motor brush which was fairly easy to repair. I did not dismantle the g/box as it looked to be a metal bending job.
Email me if you want some more info / plan of attack, but a trip to a breaker might be easier. On the other hand - what have you got to lose?

The headlight wipers on my 88 635 finally gave up the other day. I thought it would be an easy fix as it had been on my E30, when the wipers on that seized up. But it wasn't! I'm not sure how to the remove the headlight assembly so that I can get at the wiper motor and linkages. I removed the grille but the actual cradle holding the two lights will not come out because the wiper linkages are in the way. As these linkages are fixed to the cradle I cannot work out how to remove them.
The wiper motor just makes a horrible clicking noise whenever the ignition is on and I think the gears inside are broken. I managed to get the main wiper shaft to move as this was seized.
Does anybody know how to remove the wiper assembly or have any other ideas on fixing it?
