Did you try heat to remove the bushing and use sockets or something to push out the old bushing? Even on much older cars, it's usually not that difficult...

I just finished doing the rears this week. Removal of the trailing arms is very straight forward. For me the hardest part of the job was finding a machine shop to remove the old bushings. I'm not sure exactly why but after 4 shops I found one that told me that I might try to burn the rubber off and then use a chesiel to remove the outer metal casing. After 2+hours I gave up and took it back to the shop where 2 hours and $60 later I had no more bushings. Installation of the bushings is a snap, in fact I was a little concearned at the easy at which the bushings went into the mounts, considering the task of removing the originals but after thinking about it I realized that the bushings must rotate easily within the mount or else the whole point in them being adjustable is lost. I have yet to test the new bushings although I can see the difference in the tire(less negative camber). Here is a site which gives good advice on adjustments for the rear.
