Reads like you have exhaust gas pressure in the water jacket. Be as careful as you can with the gasket as you remove it so it can be read. This means looking for signs of where the exhaust passed from and to. The head should be worked while you have it off. The shop should do a pressure check and check for warpage and trenching by the hot gas. take the gasket to the shop for them to examine also. If you had water/steam from the exahust pipe you will need to check for steam erosion in the chambers with leakage. Both trenching and erosion will require a weld repair. If you want further advice drop an e-mail to me
good luck
