Because the head is retained by bolts and not nuts on studs, they rarely stick badly. With all of the bolts removed (even the ones inside the chain case) just lift up on one side and it should break loose easily.

Be nice to the gasket so you car read it.

I am certain that either my head is cracked or that the head gasket has blown on my 1986 635CSi. Could anybody please give me any advice to determine which of these two problems I have. Also can anyone give any pointers as to the best method to remove the cylinder head and especially to 'unstick' the head from the engine block. Please email me with any suggestions.
