RIM TROUBLE. I NEED HELP (archive)

I recently purchased rims for my '85 635. They are the rims off of a '97 740il. They're 16 inch with a 225/50 series tire. The problem I have is that the front wheels rub somewhere. I wanted to know if they are of the smae offset or if the rear wheels are maybe wider than the fronts and maybe all I need to do is swap the fronts with the rears. One thing I did notice is that the cenetr caps didn't fit flush against the rim like the rear ones did. Please if anybody can help me. Thanks.
