Thks CDR good idea but buy the time I read your post it was too late !
A little bit of filing and cutting (but time cumsuming) on the front caps,inside of course unseen, did the trick.
The bearing caps would have been more elegant of course.
Im now trying to decide what tyres to get.

======================================

To get the center caps of the newer wheels to fit E24's (non-M6) all you need are two new bearing dust caps, p/n 31 21 1 130 124, which are ~$6.00 each from the dealer. This cap is the one used on the M6, and most newer models, as its shape (cone) clears the tabs on the wheel center caps. Much easier and cleaner than modifying the the wheel center caps...

Yes they are 740 wheels P/N is actually 1182277.I have a set havnt but them on my M535 yet but did a test fit with a 225x50x16 tyre that I cant remeber the brand.They just "kissed" the front strut.
Bob are the Dunlop SP8000 any good and did you bother doing anything about the slight rub?
Like what are they like compared to the TRX's
I,m currently slightly modifing the centre caps they they go on ok as the E28 bearing cap must be a bit bigger on the E28.

===================================

I recently purchased a 1989 635CSI with original wheels. I need to know if I can substitute 16x8 BMW wheels from a 5 series on my car. The part number according to bmwwheels.com is 182 277. Basically I'm trying to find 16x8 BBS style/look wheels. I've attached a link to the picture of the rims I'm thinking of purchasing. Thanks in advance for your input.

Don't know the part number, but these look like the 740 wheels I have on my car. O.K. with Dunlops SP 8000 at 225X50X16 with a trace rub on the front struts. Wheel ET=23MM. Different tires=different rubs. Some manufacturers tires are a bit wider and some a bit narrower.
