I always heard that the only plug for this car was the WR9 LS but I decided to try the 4 tip non-adjustable plugs. The car idles very smooth and gets excellent fuel economy. Any one else has experience with them or comments? Any adverse effects over long time?

I have found that the standard bosch platinum (or the new +4) plugs do not work well in the BMW M30 engines. This I think is because the older bosch ignitions were designed for a standard higher arc over voltage plug (platinums work well with weaker stock ignitions delivering a much better spark with less voltage). Platinums also oil foul much easier (hence higher mileage engine == higher chance of oil fouling). SO on an older BMW use the stock recommended plug. I've always had good luck running with standard bosch or NGK plugs.

That said the platinums work well in 'newer' cars. Had some in a Honda once that actually gave me 2-3 better mpg.

I did try some platinum +4's in my 84' audi quattro turbo coupe. Started easier but were more prone to misfire. (Bosch doesn't recommend these plugs for a turbo application ---and I can now see why....)
