$1800 is too much for an 82 in the shape you describe. I gave $1000 for a rust free 82 ran great, dash had usual crack and drivers seat cushion leather some tears rest of interior good. My daughter ran it out of oil. bought a second 82 633 for $400 with bad transmission. Just got it home from CA sunday evening. Again rust free. don't get impatient. If it has rust showing through on the rear valance my gut tells me there is rust other places also and rust is expensive to repair. I would leave this one alone or talk him down to well under $1000.

82 633 CSi (blown engine)
82 633 CSI (donor engine future project)
82 320i daily driver (awaiting 5 sp conversion)

Okay, then what is a fair price. I'm a bit perplexed on the responses...people are telling me to find a lower mileage example. This is a 20 year old car we're talking about...one that was driven, meaning, on a regular basis. In all reality, it should have more miles on it than it does. My budget is $4000, I figure the $1800 for the car plus $2200 should make this car a very nice daily driver. I do not show cars...I drive them. So far, I haven't seen any nice $4000 6 series cars in my geographical region (Pacific Northwest). Thats a big issue as it will cost me an additonal $800-$1800 to have a car shipped to me. And what is the huge expense everyone is worried about? Replacement parts are hardly more expensive than my E21 (Okay, the grille is substantially more). But it seems to make more sense to fix the minor maladies on this car and drive it rather than way over spending my budget.

How much is giving it away? $1800 sound fair?

Run dont walk away at any price. You can find better and you will spend a small fortune on the car.
