is better developement of the barrier walls.
"Soft Wall" technology needs to be better implemented to absorb those types of crashes, thats the only thing that will make a major safety improvement on oval track racing where as with cement barriers don't diffuse the energy so basically your body when presented with 180+mph to 0mph in 1/1000th of a second has a shitload of G-force placed on it and even with such a device, a drivers brain basically is slamming into the skull (a.k.a=concussion) hard enough to cause death. Thats why the experts are saying in this case and type of accident, he would have had little help from the HANS device. Still, with the fact another car nailed the car at nearly the same time from the side, it possibly may have diverted some of that energy from full force into the wall, if that was the case, the device could have possibly helped.Either way, other than turning your head all the way sideways to curse out another driver(I don't think many people doing nearly 200mph really look over their shoulders!), the HANS is a prudent safety device to be using, hell, if it saves one life in say 5 years, isn't it worth it?
Sorry for the rant. Its just sad when any motorsports driver, let alone an icon dies as a result of doing the thing they did best.
At least he went out unselfishly helping others win!
